SUP Foil DW Camp Sahara (EN)

SUP FOIL DW CAMP SAHARA

(English version)

Greg Closier, graduated surf-sup-foil coach for more than 20 years and english speaking (lived several years in California), offers you an unique sup foil downwind experience on the western Sahara coastline.

Dakhla area is a wordwide famous spot for kiting because of the strong/consitant wind but it is also a great place for dw foiling.

During this immersive camp (7 nights), you will be coached by Greg. His professional experience and expertise are a real asset.

This dw camp is for people with minimum sup foil dw experience (with paddle or parawing).

The key to make this trip a success : having fun, learn and improve your skills by doing lots of distance flying with condidence in a safe envrironnement with an amazing landscape.

Lodging:

You will be staying at Ocean Vagabond Lassarga located in the extreme south of the iconic Dakhla peninsula. The hyphen between the Atlantic Ocean and the lagoon.

« All included » is not only conveniant, it is also what Ocean Vagabond has the best to offer. Breaskfast, lunch, dinner, the Chef offers a varied buffet each day, combining international and Moroccan cuisine. Menus combining varieties of cooked or raw vegetable salads, tagines of meat or fish, barbecue, as well as desserts and homemade pastries … To be absolutely enjoyed

Downwind conditions and runs:

Dakhla area is an amazing playground for water sports. The weather is nice all round year, with water temp around 22°C, air temp 25°C and the best is the 300 windy days on offer ! The coast line is swept by consistant N-NE wind from march to october which is perfect for dw as it is lined up with the coast line.

From april to october, the swell is a short periode N/NE windswell and not much ground swell which has more west in it (technical if too big). This configuration is ideal for foil dw as the bumps are lined up with the wind along the coast line.

Ocean side : we have multiples runs regarding the conditions and the level of the crew. From 5km to 70km, but the main run is West Point to Lassarga which is 17km.

Lagoon side : if the conditions are too complicated (big ground swell, really strong wind, wrong wind direction, etc…), we have the option to go into the lagoon for easy bay run type bumps (short/steep/slow bumps). Over there we also have the mutiple options, from short to longer run.

The finish of ocean runs are straight to the Ocean Vagabond, which is very convenient and so easier for logistics. The ending point of the lagoon downwinders can vary depending of the chosen run and the conditions.

Each run has been previously tested and optimized by Greg in order to garanty the best security and accessibility for everyone in the group.

Safety:

Performance will be easier to reach if you have fun and if you feel comfortable. Confidence is the key, but in a potential dangerous and hostile playground such as open ocean water it is essential to feel safe.

The safety will always be the number one priority and the equipement will always be verified before starting a downwinder.

Everything is also well planned in advance with accuracy and experience in order to face each possible scenario that could happen on water.

The Ocean Vagabond team will help create a safe way to do our dw, with someone following us on land. In some conditions, a boat can also be used for safety and for shooting photos and video clips.

Program:

We will make the most of each day according to the weather forecast.

The conditions are steady and quite easy, not too tricky but still some challenging runs for whoever wants, so it will pleased all riders from intermediate to advanced riders. Ocean Vagabond is the perfect place to host those camps as it is such a welcoming and warm atmosphere, I really love this place !”
